Car thievery is something that has long been a problem. However statistically speaking there are cars that are thought to be more likely to be stolen and those cars that are less likely to be stolen. Auto theft has been climbing in recent years. There are many reasons that this is the case. One reason is that in a poor economy the rate at which stolen cars are available for parts sales or to be able to sell on the black market seems to be more marketable. By being more marketable there are issues that are concerned with the theft of automobiles. Recent reports claim that there has been up to a ten percent increase in recent years of cars.

Here is the Highway Loss Data Institute's report on the top ten most stolen, broken into, or stripped cars of 2010. See if your car makes the top ten list.

In first place, the Highway Loss Data Institute reports 10.8 of every 1,000 Cadillac Escalades are stolen, broken into, or stripped of parts. The Escalade has topped the list since 2002.


Each year, 10.8 out of every thousand late model Escalades end up getting stolen, broken into, or having parts ripped off. That's the highest rate of theft claims of any vehicle in America. The Escalade has topped the list since 2002. You may have heard that a lot of Toyota Camrys get stolen. They do. But it's only 1.6 out of every thousand.

The institute looked only at cars from the most recent three model years. These cars all have the latest anti-theft technologies, including engine immobilizers that prevent hot-wiring.

"That won't stop a determined thief from loading a car on a flat-bed truck," said Russ Rader, the institute's spokesman.
