"120 000 iPads pre-ordered in just one day, plus a diamond version already in the works"


51 000 Apple iPads have been pre-ordered only two hours after the thing went on pre-order. And a day later the number of pre-orders reached estimated 120 000. Do you need another proof that Apple is the ultimate money making machine?


In the meantime a diamond iPad popped up. But that is something we’ll talk about a bit later. Now, let’s first see how the iPad pre-orders are doing.

Putting the Apple logo on anything is a surefire way of making it sell like peanuts. No matter what people say or think of the giant iPod touch, called iPad, facts speak for themselves: everybody loves the iPad.

Or at least 120 000 people thought so and pre-ordered it before even seeing it live. As you know, the iPad went on pre-order in the USA last Friday, 12 March, and three weeks later, on 3 April, it will start shipping.

The initial euphoria managed to increase the pre-orders-per-hour to 25 000 so that the number of pre-ordered iPads reached 51 000 in the first two hours. By the end of the day a total of about 120 000 pre-orders have been received (not counting the number of reserved but not ordered iPads).

Two of every three customers went for the Wi-Fi-only version of the device while only around 30% of the people decided to get the iPad featuring both 3G and Wi-Fi support (which will become available by the end of April).

And when it comes to the onboard memory, the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models turned out equally attractive.

Before I let you share your thoughts about the iPad and its incredible first-day pre-orders, it’s time for the diamond iPad I told you a second ago. It’s exactly as tacky as it sounds. The whole device is covered by a huge number of small diamonds (11.43 carats in total) graded G/H in color and VS2/SI1 in clarity.

The diamond iPad will start selling on 1 June for good 20 000 US dollars.

"Apple iPad up goes on preorder, let’s see how it does"

You might have noticed earlier today that the Apple Store website was down again. And as it usually happens after it went back up again a new product was available for order.

Now my editor doesn’t allow me to open the discussion of why Apple alone in the world needs to take down their whole company website to announce the availability of a new product so I’ll just give you the good news.


The Apple iPad is now available on pre-order and if you really, really want to be among the first ones to have it, you might wanna order it right now.
Your shiny tablet will be at your porch on April 3 (or April 5 if Saturday delivery isn’t an option in your area). There is a limit of two per customer.

If two are enough for you, head for the Apple Store to preorder one. Or, you know, don’t… Picking up a Flash-less tablet with no proper OS for the price of two basic netbooks definitely calls for a reconsideration.

"Adobe show how HP Slate does Flash, heap pressure on the iPad"


Adobe published a thorough video of HP Slate demonstrating its Flash capabilities. It turns out watching full-length TV shows, playing games and browsing Flash-heavy websites are no problem for the HP tablet.


The fact that HP Slate will handle Flash is hardly a surprise with it running a full-fledged Windows 7 desktop OS. The main concerns were however if the performance will be okay. And as far as this video goes, there’s really nothing to worry about.



From what I can see the HP Slate handles all Flash stuff flawlessly. Let’s just hope the final product will be at least as good as in this demonstration. Excellent design, multi-touch and a home-brewed interface, great performance and fully capable OS without user restrictions – this is what HP Slate will offer. iPad may start shivering right now.

"The iPad is hitting the USA on 3 April, preorders start in a week"


The iPad is coming. On April 3. And that’s as official as it gets. And if you want to be among the first owners of Apple’s latest creation, you can pre-order one starting on March 12.


Up until now it was known that the Wi-Fi-only versions of the Apple iPad will start shipping within 60 days after iPad’s announcement while the Wi-Fi + 3G capable iPads were expected to become available within a month later. Not clear enough, huh?

Well, now it can’t get any clearer. Visiting Apple’s website you’ll see that preorders in the USA start on March 12 and less than a month later, on April 3, iPod Touch’s bigger brother will start selling. The rest of the world will see the iPad an iTad later.

The prices of the diverse iPad versions remain untouched, however, there is hope for this situation to change at some point.
