Christian de Portzamparc was born in 1944 in the city of Casablanca in Morocco. In the 1960s he studied painting and architecture at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, finishing the course in 1970. Deepened in the study of doctrines and structures of architectural theory, he got to work with a group of psycho sociologists researching social aspirations and quality of life in urban spaces to large-scale time. Surely these studies had a great influence on his urban planning and proposals in terms of user needs.

Christian de Portzamparc stood out for his bold designs and artistic touch to projects, reflecting a remarkable sensitivity to the environment and local culture. Christian is married to a Brazilian architect Elizabeth Portzamparc, who also produces great works of architecture and furniture design. In 1994, Christian was awarded the Pritzker, joining a select group of professionals with such recognition. With numerous ongoing projects, his studio has bases in Paris, New York, and Rio de Janeiro.
