Special-purpose buildings require special attention when being planned, as is the case with this fire station in Norway. In addition to an architecture with great aesthetic appeal, the building was designed to meet all needs of the daily life in the firehouse.

The project considered three important factors for building this station:

  • Site qualities - shoreline and magnificent views of the city’s mountains;
  • Dominant and negative appearance of the traffic;
  • The building as a part of a future settlement and urban development in the area.

With these guidelines, the building started to create one concept. Designed by architects STEIN HALVORSEN AS sivilarkitekt MNAL shaped curve in order to seize the largest possible space of land, the station is a 4-storey building, each one with a particular function, they are called: the base, the screen, the tower and the bridge. In each area, specific forms, structures and materials are reflected in the architecture, from the use of concrete in the base to the copper cladding of the tower.
