Some days ago I had posted about the 10 Tallest Skyscrapers in the World, and I couldn't include this one because the building was not done at that time. Well, now this list has a new top 1... it was presented in Dubai "Burj Khalifa", the tallest building in world today with 828m. Wow!

Officially opened yesterday, January 04 of 2010, the Burj Dubai is the tallest building made by the humans hand. When I looked at the first pictures in the beggining of the construction in 2005, I almost couldn't believe in the enormous building they wanted to put in that place. The Burj is far taller than the previous record, the Taipei 101 Tower, in Taiwan with 509m. The building can be viewed from 95km away, is covered with 26,000 glass panels and the estimate cost for the Burj Khalifa was about US$1.5 bilion.

"The tower is a global icon. It represents the determination and optimism of Dubai as a truly world city. It is a powerful symbol for the entire Arab world." Mohamed Alabbar

The numbers are somewhere around 'awesomeness' and that is exactly what they like. In another post we talked about the The Unusual Architecture of Dubai, where you can see that the buildings are created to make history, no matter how architects will be see them. We have to think if we really want this as a reference to new projects, what is the reason to build stuff even taller and more expensive? Maybe the investiment on the urbanism and the planning of Dubai would be more important than those sinlge projects.
